In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Geralt can use small one-handed crossbows for the first time. He acquires the basic one from Vesemir in Bianco Frutteto, complete with costumisable ammunition. They are especially useful for hitting flying beasts like Ekhidnae or Grifone to bring them down to earth. There is quite a variety of weapons labelled as simply "crossbow" with an equally wide range of statistics.
