Éile, also known as the Lark, was a bard and warrior elf who, just prior to the Conjunction of the Spheres, worked with six others to take down the Continent's new empire. The group's actions led to the Conjunction of the Spheres and the first witcher prototype.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Éile was born into the Raven Clan as the daughter of the famed Lady Cethlenn of the Knives and, like the rest of her clan, she was raised and trained as a warrior to become a protector of Pryshia's royal family. From even her times as a child though, she was asked to commit atrocities in the name of Pryshia's king, Midir, such as setting fire to a home with others inside, killing them.

Éile was also trained by the last member of the Ghost Tribe, Scían, who'd been taken into the clan for her sword skills. However, the sword master had a key harp in her home and Éile quickly became fascinated by the instrument, much to her mother's annoyance. The clan banished Scían and Cethlenn tried to get her daughter to turn her attention back to learning combat. However, it was too late and Éile fell in love with music and eventually left the clan to wander the world as a bard, in the hopes of atoning for the atrocities she committed by spreading messages of hope in her songs instead.

Meeting Fjall[]

She eventually made a name for herself as Lark and became known around the Continent for the powerful messages in her songs, especially for those not born into a high class.

At one point, she eventually ended up north on the island of Inis Dubh. As she preformed at the local tavern, she saw one customer making unwelcome advances on the tavern owner's daughter, Ithlinne, and, as he tried to force himself on the daughter, the mother tried to intervene only for him to assault her as well. Lark quickly took him down along with his pals before going back to performing.

Staying for a bit at the tavern, Lark hung out with Ithlinne, telling the young girl about how she became a bard before Ithlinne revealed she had a "sickness": she had visions and fits that scared others. They were soon interrupted though by the town's guards who came to arrest Lark for her earlier actions against the customers who assaulted Ithlinne and her mother.

Thrown into prison, Lark quickly saw her sleeping cellmate was not only a member of the rival Dog Clan but Fjall Stoneheart, the son of Chieftain Osfar, before they woke up and the two had a standoff. Despite them both revealing they weren't part of their former clans anymore, Lark, having sworn vengeance against Fjall for taking one of her cousin's eye out during the Battle of Brokilon, attacked Fjall just as he was being released. During the quick skirmish she stole and hid Fjall's tooth pendant necklace before a town guard intervened in their fight and Fjall left.

Now alone with no guards around, Lark then used the pendant to pick the cage's lock and got out and ran back to the tavern, only to find her sister, Niamh, waiting for her. Niamh then revealed their mother sent her to ask Lark to return home as they needed all the warriors they could get to accompany King Midir to Xin'trea, where a treaty was going to be signed. Lark refused however, as she left that life behind her. Her sister then left only for Ithlinne to come in to check if Lark was ok, only to have one her visions, revealing the conjunction of spheres was coming, that Lark would slay a great beast, that her notes would be the key, and that she'd find redemption in a quest in the name of her clan, before passing out.

Taking the passed out girl to her mother, her mother then revealed all of Ithlinne's visions had come true. With that, Lark gave a flute to be given to Ithlinne and headed off to catch up with her sister. However, the pair didn't get far before they were attacked, with Niamh quickly being killed by two arrows. Lark swiftly began to take out the attackers but almost got hit by one but they were stopped in time by Fjall. The two then finished off the rest of the assailants before Fjall revealed he was there looking for a boat to get off the island as well. As they gathered their things, Fjall recognized one of their attackers had a Xin'trean army mark and the pair looked around and quickly realized the 3 warring kingdoms, Xin'trea, Pryshia, and Darwen, were somehow all part of the same group of attackers. Connecting the dots, both realized there was someone trying to prevent clan warriors from being at the treaty signing so the monarchies could be wiped out. After terse remarks, they agreed to travel together to Xin'trea to warn their clans. Fjall then took his pendant back with Lark revealing she was no longer Lark after her sister's death: she was once again Éile. She then did a quick funeral pyre for her sister before she and Fjall set off.
