A Final Kindness is a potential main quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, taking place during Final Preparations.
Prerequisite: Geralt must've either not completed Keira's questline or allowed her to leave and bargain with Radovid during For the Advancement of Learning. Keira can then be found impaled on a stake at Hierarch Square after returning from Bald Mountain.
Walkthrough[]
When Geralt meets with Triss after killing Imlerith, she tells him about the lack of availability of the Lodge members. When Geralt suggests Keira, Triss tells him that Keira attempted to parley with Radovid, but he chose to execute her, by having her impaled. At this point, Geralt can suggest that Triss and he can retrieve Keira's body before finding Philippa, which will start this quest before Blindingly Obvious and it becomes a prerequisite before you can deal with that. Otherwise, Triss will ask Geralt for help after Philippa is retrieved.
However the quest was started, Geralt has to meet Triss at Hierarch Square. She says to do that around midnight, but finding her there as early as 9pm works. Talk to her and she'll ask Geralt to deal with the guards, since she can't show her face. Talk to either guard and a few options will be presented, but there are only two real possibilities - make them go away with Axii (requires Delusion level 3; 40) or fight and kill them. Either way, as the square is now safe for Triss, she'll approach and retrieve Keira's body, and the quest will complete after a short dialogue and a cutscene. (200)
Journal entry[]
- Life, like art, abounds in tragedy, and sadly the ending of Keira Metz's story added to its cornucopia of woe. With the notes on the plague she took from Mouse Tower in hand, she presented herself to King Radovid. She was counting on obtaining a royal amnesty in return for the possibility the plague could be turned into a weapon to wield against Radovid's enemies. But she forgot one important detail — never deal with a devil, and especially not a devil backed by armies and with a fierce hatred of sorceresses.
- Radovid laughed in her face, arrested Keira and had her impaled on a pike. She died in hideous agony, screaming curses against Radovid and his kingdom that echoed through the streets of Novigrad.
- When Geralt returned to town, Triss asked him to help retrieve her body and give it a proper burial.
- Geralt did as Triss asked, and after a bit of trouble with some guardsmen he was granted permission to retrieve Keira's body. It was a sad evening for everyone who had known the once-bright and vivacious sorceress, but Triss and Geralt were glad they had at least been able to give their respects in this small way.
Objectives[]
- Meet Triss on the main square at midnight.
- Get rid of the guards.
- Retrieve Keira's body.
Notes[]
- Triss will stand near Vimme Vivaldi the whole time, but will refuse to proceed during the day.
- While technically not a subquest for Final Preparations, this quest can be delayed at most until the meeting between Ciri and the Lodge. Despite being a member, Triss isn't taking part of the meeting and can be seen in her room on the floor below, but the objective for it won't appear until this quest is completed.
Trivia[]
- After taking Keira's body down from a stake, Triss will sit for a moment with her dead friend's body in a similar position to Michangelo's famous sculpture, Pietà, in which the Virgin Mary holds Jesus' body after it was taken down from the cross.
