At a Crossroads: Vernon Roche is a quest in Chapter I of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The quest signifies that Geralt has allied himself with Vernon Roche. The corresponding quest if Geralt allies himself with Iorveth is At a Crossroads: Scoia'tael.

Walkthrough

In order to "Complete" this quest, after having a fight with the Kingslayer, simply go back to Flotsam and accept Roche's next plan which would lead up to "Death to the Traitor!". Beware, this will cause the quest "At a Crossroads: Scoia'tael" to fail and cause you to lose favor among the Scoia'tael.

There is also a sepia-tone cutscene showing an encounter between Roche and Iorveth and the player controls Vernon for a brief fight sequence. Once Iorveth is knocked down, Vernon goes to kill him but hears other Scoia'tael coming and is forced to leave without finishing off the elf. He does, however, have time to speak a few lines with him before parting.

Journal entry

Have I mentioned Geralt is not good at taking decisions? He's all about lunging forward without thought, not minding the dangers, not caring for the consequences - in truth he's unequalled at that. He is thoughtful enough, however, to consult his friends in the most important cases. After the kingslayer's escape we had a serious talk, and though the final decision was his, I think I managed to explain a few things to him. To find Triss, Geralt had to ask either Vernon Roche or Iorveth for help. Cooperating with one excluded good relations with the other. Geralt went to make his choice. But did he choose Roche?
If Geralt chooses Roche:
Yes he did. Geralt agreed to help Roche in relieving Flotsam of it's troubles (the problem had a name: Loredo). After dealing with the commander both wanted to start searching for Triss.
If Geralt chooses Iorveth (the quest fails):
No he didn't. Our hero decided to cooperate with Iorveth. Rest assured, however, that the witcher will cross paths with Vernon Roche again.
