Battle Preparations is a main quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It starts immediately after Final Preparations.
This is an "umbrella" quest, incorporating the following sub-quests, all of which must be completed:
Important: Completing this quest is a cutoff point for Reason of State, as well as for returning Triss' earring and the crystal skull.
Walkthrough[]
The quest starts while you're still at Novigrad, but there's nothing to do there except talk to Avallac'h to tell him that you can set sail to Skellige. Note: this may be your last opportunity to play gwent with Madman Lugos. See Gwent: Skellige Style for more info.
When you arrive at Kaer Trolde Harbor, the first two subquests will start and you just have to go through them. Doing so is quite straightforward, with the only notable thing being that Child of the Elder Blood starts after the first portion of The Sunstone, and then Skjall's Grave is optionally started through a choice at the end of Child of the Elder Blood.
When you're all done, make sure that you're not forgetting Reason of State before telling Avallac'h that everything is ready. In doing so, your ship will sail to Undvik, though you'll have the option to stay behind and meet the others there later.
This quest then ends (no rewards) and On Thin Ice will start.
Journal entry[]
- Thanks to Triss and Yennefer's hard work, Ciri's team of defenders now had two more outstanding sorceresses in its ranks and the prospect of gaining yet another. With this, our heroes were ready to face the Wild Hunt, but to bring Eredin to their world and cut off his escape route, they also needed an elven artifact known as the Sunstone. The team set off for the Skellige Isles to finish their final tasks before their final battle.
- In short order Geralt had found the Sunstone, secured the sorceress Fringilla Vigo's assistance and prepared Ciri to face Eredin once more. The time had come to fight the Wild Hunt.
Objectives[]
- Meet Avallac'h on the ship.
- Find the Sunstone.
- Pick Fringilla up on the emperor's ship.
- Find out if Avallac'h's hiding something.
- Help Ciri confront her past.
- Let Avallac'h know everything's ready.
Bugs[]
- Rarely, when attempting the final objective Avallac'h will not enter interactive conversation, instead only replying with "Yes?", making it impossible to complete the quest. This bug seems to have been fixed in Patch 4.02.
Notes[]
- Decisions made in the dialogues during Child of the Elder Blood and Skjall's Grave will affect Ciri's ending. Refer to the decision checklist for critical choices.
- After completing Child of the Elder Blood when you return to Avallac'h on the ship, you can hear Yennefer "inquiring" Avallac'h about the genealogy tree in his "laboratory", and his intention with that knowledge, which leads to a non-mission critical conversation between Geralt and Avallac'h about "Went by your laboratory."
- Certain dialogue options will depend on if you romance Triss, Yennefer or neither. They do not however affect the events or tasks of the quest itself.
