Battle for Rivia Castle was the last battle fought in the kingdom of Rivia during the Second Northern War. After the event, the kingdom of Lyria and Rivia was finally freed by the Nilfgaardian invaders.
Summary of battle
As the walls of Rivia's castle were totally impenetrable, Queen Meve was forced to try an other way to break in: together with his advisors, he tasked a little unit of his soldiers to infiltrate the castle by crossing Loch Eskalott and, once in the castle guardhouse, to open the main gates to the remaining troops.
First phase
If Reynard opens the gates: Meve tasked his faithful advisor Reynard Odo with leading the unit. At night, Reynard and his soldiers crossed the lake and reached the top of the castle walls, without alerting any foes. Few moments later, the main gate started raising and the courtyard of the castle was filled with soldiers wearing the colors of Lyria and Rivia. Unfortunately, Reynard and his soldiers remained killed in the action.
If Gascon open the gates: As the operation needed to be silent, Meve tasked his faithful advisor Gascon to infiltrate in the castle. At night, Gascon and the Strays of Spalla crossed the lake and reached the top of the castle walls, without alerting any foes. Few moments later, the main gate started raising and the courtyard of the castle was filled with soldiers wearing the colors of Lyria and Rivia. Unfortunately, Gascon and his soldiers remained killed in the action.
If Villem opens the gates: At night, the unit chosen by Queen Meve crossed the lake and infiltrated the castle in order to open the main gates. In the end however, the unit was anticipated by Villem, son of Queen Meve, who wanted to help his mother to take back the castle. Villem managed to open the main gates, allowing Lyrian and Rivian troops to enter the castle. Few moments later however, he was killed by Nilfgaardian troops.
Second phase
Ardal aep Dahy escaping
In the end, Queen Meve, despite her loss, successfully led her soldiers to victory and stormed the castle. General Ardal aep Dahy however wasn's in the castle anymore: after the Lyrians surged towards the Upper Keep, he had glided down to the Lower Keep in a wicker basket for transporting food and immediately fled to the city of Aldersberg in Aedirn.
