Bernika of Talgar was one of the girls allegedly born under the curse of the Black Sun. A prince helped her escape from the tower in which she had been imprisoned; later she came to rule Talgar (perhaps during the upheaval of the Secession of Poviss), though according to Stregobor, a believer in the curse, not very justly. She was mentioned in the short story The Lesser Evil. It was she who provided refuge to Esterad Thyssen of Kovir in exile; Esterad's wife Zuleyka is likely a relative to her (maybe a daughter).
