Aye, so far. But it'd be best to know peace again. Times like these you never know what tomorrow will bring.

- Elsa on the war, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Elsa was the innkeeper at the White Orchard Inn, where Geralt and Vesemir first met her during their search for Yennefer in the May of 1272. She couldn't provide much information as she hadn't seen Yennefer, but accommodated the two witchers with food and drink should they require it. If Geralt did not ask Bram for a reward previously, Elsa gave them four roast chicken legs for free.

Biography

Later, when Geralt and Vesemir were preparing to leave the village, a woman began accosting Elsa for removing the Temerian shield from the wall. Elsa explained that she did so to protect herself and the tavern from the Nilfgaardians, as they would burn the tavern down if they saw the lilies. However, the woman dismissed this justification, as her sister had been executed by the Nilfgaardians for being superstitious. She became violent and grabbed Elsa by the head and proceeded to bash it against the counter repeatedly. Geralt and Vesemir intervened and attracted the attention of some local men who believed that the witchers were conspiring with Emperor Emhyr. The men refused to back down, and thus the situation ended in a massacre. Both women became terrified of the witchers, and Elsa, cowering behind the counter, told them to leave and never return.

Geralt encountered Elsa later at The Kingfisher Inn in Novigrad. After Priscilla's ballad ended, she emerged from the crowd and pointed out Geralt as the witcher who "murdered those Temerian boys" in White Orchard. The rest of the patrons, however, paid no mind to this and become annoyed that she was ruining the atmosphere.

After Elsa visited Novigrad, she settled down in a place called Rustone.[1]

Notes

  • Before error, it was required to buy Elsa's gwent cards before leaving White Orchard to avoid failing Collect 'Em All, as Elsa leaves White Orchard at the same time as Geralt and ceases to be a merchant.
  • As of patch 1.04, Elsa and Bram's trading inventories are partially shared which makes it possible to buy the cards from Bram instead, even after Elsa leaves White Orchard.
