The Emperor/Imperator (Nilfgaardian dialect: Ker'zaer)[1] or Empress is the absolutistic leader and ruler of the Nilfgaardian Empire. Although sharing his realm with a number of barons, counts, dukes, princes, senators and other aristocrats, his rule is totalitarian and disloyalty is punished with death. The Emperor is also a religious head of state since he is, among others, High Priest of Great Sun.[2] The title is inherited.

Imperial Court is located in Nilfgaard, the city of Golden Towers, but there is also a summer residence in Loc Grim Palace on the lake of the same name.[3] Arguably the most notorious emperor was Emhyr var Emreis, also known as Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd, which translates to as "the White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies", whose reign spanned from 1257 to 1290.

  • Ker'zaer sound similar to Kaiser, a German word for emperor used historically in Austria and Germany. The Dutch term keizer is even more similar.
  • In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt there is a possibility to make Ciri a successor of Emhyr, Empress of Nilfgaard, but it is not included here because it contradicts canon source (novels by Andrzej Sapkowski) who stated that Morvran Voorhis was successor of Emhyr. It's maybe possible that Morvran married Ciri and reigned with her.
