The Emperor/Imperator (Nilfgaardian language: Ker’zaer or Her’zaer)[1] or Empress/Imperatrix is the absolutistic leader and ruler of the Nilfgaardian Empire. Although sharing their realm with a number of barons, counts, dukes, princes, senators, and other aristocrats, the Emperor's rule is totalitarian and disloyalty is often punished by death. The Emperor is also the religious head of state, bearing the inherited title of High Priest of the Great Sun, among others.[2]
The personal guard of the Imperator is the Impera Brigade, which counts more than 5000 soldiers.
The Imperial Court is located in Nilfgaard, the City of Golden Towers, but there is also a summer residence at Loc Grim Palace on the lake of the same name.[3] Arguably, the most notorious emperor was Emhyr var Emreis, also known as Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd (which translates to "the White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies"), whose reign spanned from 1257 to roughly the end of the 13th century.
