Enchanting is added in by the Hearts of Stone expansion.
It introduces 2 types: runewords (for weapons) and glyphwords (for armor). These can give significant bonuses to a piece of equipment, but would destroy any upgrades already set into it, and fill all upgrade slots on that armor/weapon, preventing the addition of new runes.
To get enchantments unlocked, one must help the Runewright at the Upper Mill.
Tips[]
- Runewords and glyphwords can only be added to chest armors and swords with at least 3 slots.
- For a fee, the runewright can add up to 3 slots to swords and chest armor.
- Up to 2 slots can be added to all other armor pieces, but each item may have its preset limit (e.g. most gauntlets will be limited to 1).
- Regular runes will be removed automatically with no extra charge.
- A runeword will only be active if that particular sword is drawn in combat, so if you wish to have it available on both swords, you'll need to get it activated on both. Preservation is an exception.
- If you enchant any Witcher gear but then upgrade that gear to a higher tier, the enchantment will be destroyed in the process, freeing up the slots (this does not happen with inset stones).
