Olcan Grandemot[N 1] was the Hierarch of Vengerberg around the period of Northern War II and Lormark Wars. In 1270s, he was considered the last truly ecumenical hierarch in the Northern Realms.
Biography[]
At one point of his life, Grandemot was chosen by Vengerberg's clerical council to become the hierarch. As such, he was obliged to oversee the peaceful relations between priesthoods of different deities of the Nordling Pantheon, oversee the organization and construction of temples in Aedirn, and serve as a mediator between clergy and the monarch.
Olcan was renown for not elevating any deity of the Pantheon above others, keeping the balance of power among Aedirn's churches intact, thus distancing himself from the practices of other hierarchs of the time who tended to pick favorites. After a number of Skelliger mercenaries were hired to fight for Aedirn during Lormark Wars, he took cult of Freya under his protection.[2]
The hierarch was troubled by rising popularity of peasant leader Saskia and the threat she potentially served to Stennis, heir to Aedirn's crown. Considering a hefty dose of thaumador more reliable than excommunication, he was behind the conspiracy to have the Virgin poisoned. Alas, he didn't live to witness the result of his deeds, as he was murdered by King Henselt of Kaedwen while trying to mediate.[3]
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings[]
He is killed by King Henselt during the preamble to Chapter II when a fight between the Kaedwenis and Aedirnians breaks out. He tries to stop the bloodshed but Henselt, blinded by rage, viciously slams him into a large stone obelisk, killing him. His death unleashes a series of strange happenings, including an eclipse. Later we learn that it has unleashed the full power of Sabrina's curse.
Also he is the one responsible for Saskia's poisoning.

- Olcan, the priest from Prince Stennis' retinue, turned out to be directly responsible for the poisoning of Saskia. The clergyman apparently thought that a heavy dose of thaumador would be more effective than prayer or excommunication. Unfortunately, because he was already dead, he could not answer for his deed.
