Germinus was a white dragon who lived remarkably far south, possibly as far as Temeria. He was a sharp, sociable creature with extensive knowledge of jewelry, certain aspects of Magic, and the history of the Continent.
At some point, a large procession led by Princess Frissanna passed through his territory. Germinus watched the procession and was drawn to the magnificent, gold- and jewel-encrusted carriage of Frissanna. Before any of the guards could react, he swooped down, grabbed the carriage from the top, and with three powerful beats of his wings, lifted it into the air. After circling the procession, he flew off into a rocky ravine.
Once he brought the carriage into his lair and admired his latest acquisition, he discovered, to his horror, that Frissanna was inside. He had assumed any sensible person would have fled the carriage when he grabbed it; he hadn't counted on someone being unconscious inside. Disgusted by the thought of reaching in and pulling her out, and fearful that his breath might damage the carriage, he left to hunt, hoping the princess would wake up and exit on her own. Soon, he found some mountain cattle and began to feast.
Unbeknownst to Germinus, a rescue operation had been launched after his abduction of the princess. Several groups of seekers and at least a dozen knights set off in search of the dragon. Among them was Mage Hidlobard of Bald Mountain and ten dwarves he hired. Hidlobard's main goal was to kill the dragon and take its organs, which were powerful magical ingredients. They had set up the mountain cattle as bait, and while Germinus was eating, they attacked. Caught by surprise, Germinus faced a tough fight and suffered severe damage to his wings. As he grew more exhausted and wounded, a second group arrived. Germinus reached out to them telepathically, asking for their help in exchange for guiding them to the carriage. The second group then either forced Hidlobard and the dwarves to retreat or convinced them to spare the dragon.
Grateful to his rescuers, Germinus stayed true to his word and led them to his lair, having to walk since his wings were too damaged. As he guided them to the princess, he engaged the rescue party in small talk, eagerly listening to the latest gossip about the problems of humanoid races—though “latest” for him referred to anything up to three centuries ago. Before they arrived, he made his rescuers promise not to take any of his treasure and to show him the same noble behavior he had shown them. When they reached his lair, they found an old woman tied up at the entrance, screaming that she was a virgin. Germinus explained that this was a monthly occurrence, as the local villagers would leave these "gifts," and that he had carved a second entrance to avoid them. Now, however, he simply stepped over the old woman.
Inside his lair, the rescue party found the still-dazed princess. After she made some groggy comments, Germinus suggested changes to the spell on her so she could better interact with the world. The rescuers also noted that the dragon had healed the wounds he sustained in battle. While Germinus talked with the princess and the rescuers, one of them was approached by Hidlobard, who cast an invisibility spell on himself. He promised a part of the dragon's hoard if the rescuers would team up with him and his dwarves to defeat Germinus, as he knew how to lift the protective spells the dragon had placed over his treasure.
It is unknown what decision the party made, but had they chosen to stand by Germinus, the noble creature would have defended them from the mage's reprisals.
