The family claiming origin from the legendary King Hengefor has ruled the city of Hengfors and its vicinities for generations.

History[]

The following is based on The Witcher Thursdays and may contradict Andrzej Sapkowski's works or R. Talsorian Games' official The Witcher Role-Playing Game line.

While Niedamir's chroniclers have (most likely fraudulently) traced the history of his family to ancient times of the Dauk, the actual history of the dynasty began with the appointment of his grandfather to the position of the Margrave of the East March, seated in the city of Hengfors, by Thyssen kings of Kovir and Poviss.

In the 1210s, when the Margrave sent Hengforsian troops to help his suzerain Baldwin Thyssen during the Secession of Poviss, Caingornese highlanders rebelled and declared a local Ademeyn nobleman a petty king in Caingorn. To deal with the situation, the Margrave ordered a forced conscription in the military service; the decision was tragically unpopular and led to the event called "Defenestration of Hengfors", during which Hengforsian townsfolk threw him out of the window and declared the creation of Free City of Hengfors.

The Margrave's son Audoen, who had reigned over Arcsea in his father's name, managed to retake Hengfors and was crowned its king, later expanding his realm into Crinfrid, Malleore, and Caingorn. Following Audoen's unfortunate death after the Battle of Vattweir, the former East March territories once again split into multiple duchies and petty kingdoms.[1]

Nobody expected much from Niedamir, his son, only a couple of years old,[2] who was left with a handful of lands around the Caingorn keep.

Yet it was Niedamir who finally united the region. Following the spotting of a green dragon near Barefield in the early 1250s, local sheperds led by Sheepbagger joined the king en masse after he organized a dragon hunt to get rid of the beast. Even though Niedamir chose to withdrew his forces without confronting the creature and the event itself was unsuccessful, the young king kept his control over Barefield and eventually expanded into Malleore, taking the principality by force.[3] Controlling the armies of both Caingorn and Malleore, Niedamir marched on Hengfors, where, after negotiations with the burghers, he proclaimed the creation of the Hengfors League, a loose federation of largely independent duchies and republics.[1]

Following the Fourth Treaty of Lan Exeter,[4] Niedamir agreed to connect his dynasty with that of Kovir by marrying his children to the Thyssens.[5] As of the 1260s, he had two sons and it is very likely that one of them was engaged with or married to Heloiza Thyssen.
