Henri III, also known as Henri Gras ("Henri the Fat"), was a duke of Toussaint and presumably the father of Adela Marta.
Biography[]
Henri admired distant lands around the river Alba and considered them more civilized. Based on their model, he reformed Bastoy Prison by a decree which diminished prison guard, forbade physical punishments and dark cells, limited flogging, allowed prisoners to possess private property and walk around the prison grounds. Furthermore, prisoners were to be fed properly and taught how to read and write.
Henri believed that this would lower the crime rate by showing criminals a better way. This "experiment", however, turned out to be inapplicable in Toussaint. As a result, Bastoy became a ruin and eventually, a new prison had to be established.[1]
