Julia Abatemarco, also known as "Pretty Kitty", was a mercenary and a member of Adieu's Free Company. She, along with Adam Pangratt, Lorenzo Molla, and Juan Gutierrez, had previously been imprisoned in Kovir, but was later released by King Esterad Thyssen as one of his so-called "Sly cats" (Polish: "Psotne koty"): prisoners offered amnesty and the opportunity for lucrative mercenary work in the aid of the Northern Kingdoms against the Nilfgaardian Empire. This ploy enabled Esterad and the kingdoms of Kovir and Poviss to ostensibly remain politically neutral, whilst in effect actually aiding the North.

After the four were released by Esterad, they left for Redania where they formed the mercenary group known as the Free Company. Alongside the rest of the Free Company, Julia participated in the battles at Mayena and Brenna, and later paraded through the streets of Novigrad following the Northern Kingdoms' victory in the Second Northern War. During the victory celebrations, Adam asked for her hand in marriage, despite the fact that he was already married.

Julia grew very old, living for at least sixty-five years after the Battle of Brenna, though she was plagued by illnesses typical of old age.

Notes[]

  • In The Witcher Chapter II, when Geralt talks to the Gardener in Vizima, he mentions having fought alongside Pretty Kitty's corps of mercenaries in the war against Nilfgaard.
  • In The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, on Roche's path, Adam Pangratt and his mercenaries get ambushed by Geralt and Veron inside the Tunnel of the Founders. Pangratt then asks to be spared, explaining he will leave for Tretogor where a pregnant "Julia" awaits him. To this, Vernon laughingly adds "You knocked up Pretty Kitty? Ah, congratulations, Pangratt. And give her my regards."
