A lubberkin is a friendly household guardian spirit created from a botchling through Aymm Rhoin, an elven naming ritual, during which it is given a proper name and a burial under the hearth of the family estate. A lubberkin looks very similar to a botchling, the main difference being its ghost-like, glowing, white aura and relatively passive behavior.

- Phillip Strenger performing naming ritual

In 1272, Geralt meets with Velen's self-proclaimed baron Phillip Strenger who had unwittingly created a botchling from his and his wife's unborn child. Geralt is faced with a decision to either lift the curse via Aymm Rhoin (or the Ritual of Naming), or kill the beast off using the "witcher's way". If the ritual is completed, the lubberkin - named Dea - helps Geralt to further track down the fate of the baron's wife Anna, and daughter Tamara.
