- pg.165, The Last Wish (UK edition)

Mamunes are small creatures said to prevent folk from finding their way home after a night out at the inn. They are said to gather on the eve of Saovine. They are mentioned, along with misguids, by the villagers of Upper Posada in the short story "The Edge of the World".

The Witcher

These little creatures are seen throughout The Witcher, but they serve no obvious purpose. They tend to gravitate to Geralt and dance around him but otherwise do not interact.

Blood and Wine expansion

Geralts mentions that the closest mamunes are in Vizima when he and Regis were in need of their glands for their hallucinogenic properties to brew Resonance. Regis also mention mamunes later, after the meeting with Syanna and the duchess, when commenting how Toussaint's appearance can deceive.

  • In Slavic Folklore, the mamuna (also called dziwożona) is a female demon who lives in swamps and lakes, and lures travelers (usually married men or pregnant women) into an horrible death. Their name is related to the biblical Mammon, a malicious entity that embodies the concept of greed and gluttony.
