Wanted to give you a suggestion for your categorizing of some of the characters. If you have two categories: "Royalty" and "Royal family members" don't put any one person in both categories. Just make "Royal family members" a sub-category of "Royalty" and only put the royal family members in the "Royal family members" category. We should not be multi-categorizing single pages when only one category is necessary since it is a proper sub-category of ones above it. Do you understand what I mean?
I take on your suggestion but I believe A IT DOES NOT harm peoples understanding and B it gives more description which made be needed for some who are not all that literate in relation to everything royal.
but thank you for your suggestion
I wish you to know that I do this to further peoples understanding to the maximum of all character and I don't mind doing the extra work
They are not that similar as one describes what royalty is which varies from who is royalty. they are completely different such as apples and oranges. Similar shape but the colour, texture and flavour are different.
Categories aren't supposed to describe what is what, that's what articles are for. I don't believe articles of these are necessary, but if it would be created, then they're not going to be a category. Also as far as I can see it's not impossible for anyone to become a king, regardless of birth. You can still have a category named "Royalty" but those who have power but do not belong to the royal family should have another category.
I do not see the major problem, it does not confuse anyone and it helps distinguish between the rulers of the kingdoms and those who are the offspring who in the books and novels do not become rulers. This simplifies rather than confuses.
The issue is, the content of your categories are better suited for an article. I'd say oversimplification isn't good either, but you're actually making it look more complex than it is the way you categorize them.
I'd suggest what Magic said, pick one of the names for a singular category and if it's deemed necessary, let's find another name for those who are not part of the royal family and/or are not even close to becoming a king. Eventually if it won't be done, it'll be probably done by someone else or one of the admins.
Not just name but content of both; the descriptions of categories should be kept brief. Also all the articles that were categorized would have to be appropriately recategorized depending on the name changes.
That is also a good alternative. I don't see anything severe in the reaction (assuming that's what you meant). As I said categories are not articles. Regular readers of the Wiki won't read categories, they'll read articles. I don't know right now if the content of those category pages are also present somewhere else on the Wiki, but if they are, that's good - if not, those contents should be put into an article instead. And I think it goes without saying that if you change the structure of the categories you made or rename one or another, then you will also have to edit the articles you categorized into them, avoiding future red links and simple bad editing. Again, others can do it too, but as far as I can tell there's enough extra work for other editors as it is.
