Orcs were a half-civilised race known for savagery – but also for respecting the code of honour and laws of war. They tended to organise in warbands, sometimes joining forces with trolls, ogres or goblins.
By the time of the Empire they were nearly extinct. Even the half-orcs tended to live at the margin of the society, as free trappers or thieves.
- According to Historia i Fantastyka interview with Andrzej Sapkowski, the Elder Speech was created as a language for orcs and elves, but this race hasn't appeared in the official continuity yet, only as characters and opponents in Oko Yrrhedesa, a role-playing game of ambiguous connection to The Witcher world.
- The author wrote a feuilleton titled Ya hoi! Ya hoi! Ya harri hoi! about the origin and role of orcs and similar creatures in the fantasy genre. A copy of it can be found here.
- Bartlomiej Gawel from CD Projekt drew Witcher-styled orcs once, but the art was only an unofficial practice.
