Rock dragons, also known as brown dragons, are formidable creatures, despite not being classified among the "true" dragons.[1] These creatures are capable of both conventional combat and limited spellcasting. Typically found in dry, rocky areas and stony plains, they prefer to burrow beneath mountainous terrain rather than rely on flight. The largest specimens can grow to lengths of five to ten meters.[2][3]
Rock dragons are well-known to the dwarves of Mahakam.[4] Though they may initially appear less imposing than other dragon species, with their long, slender bodies and smaller wings folded tightly against their sides, they should not be underestimated. Their craggy, armored heads rest atop shorter necks, and their powerful limbs end in sharp, shovel-like claws. The scales of a rock dragon are typically a warm brown, with harder, greyish scales running along its spine. When the famously stubborn dwarves encounter the equally stubborn brown dragons, conflict is often inevitable.[3]
Geralt of Rivia once saw a mounted rock dragon head among the hunting trophies in the dining room of Nivellen's manor. The head was reportedly taken by Nivellen's grandfather, and according to Nivellen, it might have been the last of its kind in the vicinity.[5]

Notes[]
- Remarking the rock dragon's affiliation with stones and rocks, as well as the environment they live in, its D&D counterpart may be grey dragon.
