Syndril Cullwyn[1] was an elven mage who, just prior to the Conjunction of the Spheres, worked with six others to take down the Continent's new empire. The group's actions led to the Conjunction of the Spheres and the first witcher prototype.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Syndril was born in the same village under the same burning star at the same time as Zacaré, making the two celestial siblings. The two shared the same magical traits and developed a close sibling relationship to the point Zacaré's mother took in Syndril. However, when she unexpectedly passed away, the two siblings, desperate to have her back, tried to use their magic to do so but it didn't go as planned, traumatizing them.
Finding new realms[]
Later on, Syndril parted ways for Xin'trea in the hopes of learning to open portals into new worlds and was welcomed by the Chief Sage, Balor. While they succeeded in opening a portal, instead of finding a new world rich in life and resources, they instead found a barren wasteland with an energy that terrified Syndril and a dangerous beast that prowled the skies. They returned back to their world but when Syndril voiced how terrifying the chaotic energy was there, Balor instead took Syndril's book on how to open the portals and locked him away in prison while telling everyone else Syndril was lost on another world.
Forming of the Seven[]
When Merwyn's coup occurred, Syndril saw the very same beast from that world, now under Balor's control, as it killed off all the people. With that, Syndril escaped and vowed to destroy the gateways. Knowing how to use the monoliths to teleport himself, he managed to use the master monolith in Xin'trea's courtyard, Ard Gaeth, to teleport to one close to Zacaré.
Just as he made his way there, Zacaré was joined by Callan who showed up with Éile, Fjall, and a dying Scían. While Fjall immediately tried to attack Syndril on sight, Zacaré stopped him, noting if anyone was going to punish Syndril, it'd be her, but they needed to first tend to Scían.
Syndril traveled with the rest to Zacaré's home where, as Scían was healed, Fjall talked with Syndril about what happened back in Xin'trea. Syndril explained the portals and what Balor did, before revealing Merwyn herself killed Fjall's sister. However, the biggest issue was that he discovered the monoliths were causing tears between worlds, causing issues with their own magic and feared their own world would be ripped apart soon if they didn't do something. In particular, they had to somehow destroy the master monolith that was now in Xin'trea.
Battle of Xin'trea[]
The group then set out to the monolith that Syndril used earlier and opened a portal, only for them to somehow end up on an entirely different world. As they looked around, a mysterious monster gave chase after Éile and Syndril quickly opened a new portal and the group ran through it, closing it as part of the monster came through, severing and killing it. This time they lucked out though and ended up on the outskirts of Xin'trea. As they headed off, the group ran into Meldof, who quickly warned them Balor's beast was up in the sky looking around for food and to follow her if they wanted to live.
As they sat around and ate, they learned tales of their exploits had already been spreading and many already knew the rumor of them wanting to kill the empress.
In order to put an end to Balor's beast, Syndril convinced Zacaré to merge with a beast again. Together they developed a procedure that would transform the elf through biology, chemistry and magic, creating a warrior capable of fighting the beast. His procedure turned Fjall into the first prototype of a witcher, and he finally killed Balor's beast, although he was later a failure when he almost killed his friends. Syndril and Zacaré were able to defeat Balor and destroy the main monolith, but Syndril decided to sacrifice himself in the process.
