This is the only Witcher 3 contract with a "cutoff point."
If you have not started this contract, "Devil by the Well," you will be notified with "CONTRACT FAILED!" after you finish the very final main quest, "Something Ends, Something Begins (quest)."
Since you cannot fast travel during the final main quest, "On Thin Ice," it is recommended that you fast travel to White Orchard to complete this contract before starting "On Thin Ice."
Personally, I decided to ignore this contract during my 2nd time playthrough/NG+ since no contracts had a "cutoff point" in The Witcher 3 contracts page.
