I am not sure if it's official or not, but to me, the texture of the set reminds me and resembles the armor of Vlad the Impaler's from Bram Stroker's Dracula movie. Though it's not 1:1 armor, especially the mask part, it has those interesting unique vertical bulged lines that is only for this and the black version as far as I have seen, and interesting fact is that these sets come with a mask, the mask is unnecessary unless someone tried to make a set of Bram Stroker's Vlad the Impaler's look-alike armor set where Vlad wore a bat-like helmet, except they could've made a vampire-like mask like they did with the fox/wolf mask and bird mask for the Life or Death quest with Triss at the ball party.
It's very fitting as well to find black set in a quest line where you are visiting vampire castle, and the red one, which you can get only in the Elder's place.
So it all just pretty much points at being an inspiration of Bram Stroker's Dracula, Vlad the Impaler's red armor set that resembles muscles of human anatamoy to an extent, while these two sets might not, they still count as being inspired.
