What exactly is a 'critical blow' under this game's mechanics? That's never answered in the manual or explained in tutorials. Higher damage? Higher chance for other special effects? Instant fatality? 'Precise hit' sounds like a good thing to have, but it's just vague enough not to convince anyone to invest in it.

It's definitely not "instant fatality", that much I can confirm. I don't know for sure, but I am trying to find out as I would like to know as well. What I think happens right now is that your chances of inflicting maximal damage (as defined by the combination of your weapon, enhancements to that weapon, and your own skill) is increased. Personally, I invest in every darned skill I can ;) .. I even grind (just a little!) to get the last few that I want before Act V.
I'll definitely update the page when i know for sure, i just don't want to add complete conjecture :) — Game widow 18:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Damage multiplier, perhaps? Fully developed group styles seem to deal more damage than reported, sometimes even more than strong styles developed to the same degree. Also, Wolf potions with nigredo dominant significantly improve strike power. 97.81.77.13 15:54, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
I think a damage multiplier is mostly likely the case — Game widow 18:13, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
It seems it's not a damage multiplier after all - It instantly takes away a % of the maximum hitpoints of the creature it hits, that's why the group style seems so powerful, check this link: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:0l6jGEcvQjYJ:tw1.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php%3Faction%3Dprintpage%3Btopic%3D22066.0+precise+hit+witcher&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1 --SkyHiRider 12:41, June 2, 2011 (UTC)
