The Sword, Famine and Perfidy is a treasure hunt quest in the Hearts of Stone expansion.

Walkthrough[]

This quest is convenient to complete during Evil's Soft First Touches, after the ship crashes north of Novigrad, as then you land near the place where this treasure hunt starts. Regardless, make your way far east from Crane Cape and northwest from the Cavern signpost (where you'd go for the feline steel sword - superior diagram). There you'll find a hut overrun by around five drowners or drowned dead.

Kill them off and enter the hut to find a dirtied letter on a body and some barrels blocking a hatch door. Clear that and descend to find another body, on which you'll find a letter written in blood and a rusted key, officially starting the quest. Then read the letter to get the location of a sunken ship.

With this, you can use the boat on the beach outside to sail near the larger of the two islands southwest. Dive in, deal with the couple of drowners there and unlock the chest in the boat to complete the quest. Inside you'll find a greater Stribog runestone and small amount of florens among other misc. loot. While still here, you may also search the two islands for likely better loot, as nothing else will lead you back here.

Journal entry[]

In a certain cellar located near a nest of drowners, Geralt found a body. Quite curiously, the deceased had not been torn apart by the monsters, but seemed to have died of thirst, having been barricaded in the cellar by some third party. Near the body Geralt found a key and some notes, all of which he took with him.
From the notes Geralt learned about a treasure hidden in a locked chest on a ship. He suspected the key to that chest was the very one he had found by the body.
Geralt had found his fair share of hidden treasure before, so he found the chest without too much difficulty and took its contents for himself.
