On November 21st, CD Projekt RED announced the release of a new patch 2.1 for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, available as an automatic download from the launcher of the game. Remember to register your game or login if you already have and existing account. This patch adds a few small changes in the command configuration and the camera FOV as well.

So far some users have reported issues with installing or running the game after this patch. Some possible suggestions to solve the problems:

* Make sure you have updated Microsoft NETFramework 4.0 to the latest version, or download it manually. Reboot the PC.
* Download patch 2.1 manually from the Official Site. Right-click on it and the "run as administrator" (Vista and Win7). With Windows XP, make sure you have administrator privileges. Check also you have all the latest updates for Windows, or download them from Microsoft.com website.
* If this error message appears:
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)
The problem seems still to not have a unique solution and can be caused by one or more Windows DLLs. Run the Command Prompt (Start-> Run-> CMD) and type "sfc\scannow" if on Win XP, or type "sfc\scannow" in the start menu, if on Win 7 or Vista. Also try to run any anti-malware and anti-spyware to remove malicious software from your PC. If nothing works, the only possible solution is to not install the patch or remove it, returning to the previous version 2.0.
* Also try a checkdisk or scandisk, to identify and repair damaged clusters on your HDD.
* Many Steam users have encountered problems with this new patch, apparently occurring much more than users which own other versions of the game. Try the already listed solutions or report your problem on the Official Forum Tech Help Section.
* Some users solved this problem updating their Kaspersky antivirus to the latest version (Link to the Official Forum Tech Board).
  • Another solution seems to be renaming acaptuser32.dll to acaptuser32.bak. It is located in Windows/SysWOW64 folder (for Win 7 64 bit) or in Windows/system32 (Win 7 32 bit). Link to the forum thread
* CD Projekt RED announces that they are investigating about these problems. A solution will be provided as soon as possible.
