Valerian Papebrock from Papebrock family was an 8th-century Temerian knight loyal to King Dezmod.
Biography
At one point in time, according to a legend, Valerian attempted to domesticate the regal beast that embellished Papebrock family's coat of arms – griffin – hoping to one day fly atop its back. He promised a rich reward to anyone who would bring him griffin's egg.
Lured by this promise, a mysterious man came to the court of Papebrocks not long after and offered Valerian an enormous, five-pounds heavy egg which he claimed to have taken from a griffin's nest. Valerian took it and three weeks after, it cracked. Although it turned out to not be a griffin, in the end, the creature's delicate meat served as the pride of Papebrocks' next banquet.[1]
