Vereena was a bruxa and Nivellen's secret lover.

Biography[]

Vereena hid in the attic when Nivellen was visited by Geralt and Ciri. Vereena came down from the attic whilst Ciri slept, scaling down the wall and crawling over to Ciri's bedside. Ciri awakened startled, but otherwise unharmed. Vereena asked if she liked the dress she left for her and then revealed that she too was different, by telepathically communicating with Ciri, who questioned if Vereena was a monster. Vereena replied by saying that being different didn't make one a monster and that humans did monstrous things all the time. Upon realizing that Nivellen hid Vereena because he loved her, Vereena kissed Ciri's hand and told her this must be their secret until she left, causing Ciri to fall asleep.

That night, as Vereena fed on Nivellen, she was attacked by Geralt and knocked out the window, where Ciri awaited alongside Roach. Vereena explained that Geralt was wrong about her and that she didn't want to hurt Ciri, but Geralt resumed his attack until she transformed and flew away. She attempted to swoop back down for an attack, but Geralt stabbed Vereena, forcing her back to her human form. Ciri checked on an unconscious Vereena, who awakened and used this as an opportunity to holds her hostage, threatening to rip Ciri's throat out if Geralt didn't leave them alone. Nivellen intervened and stabbed Vereena with a pole. While this didn't kill her, it did allow Ciri to break loose. Vereena contorted her body and pulled herself closer to Nivellen, telling him that she loved him and that if she couldn't have him, then no one could. However, before she could kill Nivellen, Geralt beheaded Vereena. Her final words to Ciri, before burning up in flames, Vereena telepathically told her that Geralt would come for her too.[1]
