Similarly to on the continent, there are some merchants who will walk the Skellige roads, covering sparsely populated areas. They are effectively clones of the roadside camp merchant south of Kaer Trolde Harbor, buying and selling the same things, but their appearance is dynamic.
They only walk around Ard Skellig, as the other isles are much smaller and hardly have roads between remaining settlements to cover. While there are a couple of wandering merchants who are always available, others need their trade routes to be cleared of danger before they will consider the road safe.
Road near Kaer Trolde[]
This merchant walks from the northern side of the wooden bridge above Kaer Trolde Harbor (eastern side), going south until the second crossroads, where he turns northeast and continues following the road until it reaches the harbor, but this time under the bridge, where the notice board is. He is supposed to turn around at either end of that almost full circle, but tends to stay in place instead. At night, he rests by a fire at either of the two points.
There are no prerequisites before he appears, but he does panic near the pirates in the woods near the crossroads, and due to a bug not accounting for elevation levels, also by the wraiths from Peace Disturbed, as a couple of them are located directly underneath the eastern tip of the route (there are some prisoners of war there).
Between Rannvaig and Rogne[]
This merchant appears after the sawmill northeast of Rannvaig is liberated, as it is on the road between the two settlements. At night, he will rest by a fire in either village.
Between Rannvaig and Kaer Nyssen[]
Before this merchant appears, there are three prerequisites before the trade route is considered safe, even though none of the enemies are significantly close to the road:
- Clearing the bandit camp directly east of Rannvaig
- Completing the small quest Armed Assault, taking place at a hut closer to Kaer Nyssen
- The first encounter with Morvudd, until the fiend blinds Geralt and runs away
He will then start walking the road between the small crossroads east of Rannvaig and to a point just before reaching the ruined fortress. There are small cage-like crates on both ends, which the merchant uses as a stool to rest on during the night.
Between Sund and Arinbjorn[]
Somewhat oddly, instead of one merchant walking the entire road, there are two appearing after the sawmill south of Sund is liberated. One walks between Sund and the sawmill, while the other between the sawmill and Arinbjorn, each taking night rest by a fire at whichever destination was closer to them. Both also tend to stop and stay in place at either destination even while they aren't resting, though they are supposed to turn around.
They share a single trader's icon on the map (i.e. only one of them will have it), but can be simultaneously seen in relative proximity. Interestingly, the Arinbjorn one isn't dependent on Never Trust Children or Call of the Wild, even though the white wolves can easily kill him.
Between Arinbjorn and Holmstein[]
Before this trade route is considered safe, Geralt has to clear the bandit camp north-northwest of Holmstein's Port. After that, a merchant will service the entire almost the entire road between the bandit camp and Arinbjorn, as long as it is, turning around just short of reaching either location. He has 2 small stools placed on sides of the roads where he sits to rest at night - one west of the crypts near Arinbjorn and one almost by the bandit camp.
Between Blandare and Palisade[]
This merchant is bugged and can virtually never be seen actually walking the road, at most only seen take a few steps before he sits down, as he is permanently in rest mode. He will however appear sitting on roadside stools on either end of his route - at the crossroads south of Blandare, and then on the other side of Kvalheim Isle, by a large tree just before the next crossroads south.
Notes[]
- Prior to Patch 4.0, these merchants had the Trader label instead.
Bugs[]
- Wandering merchants are especially prone to the impossible to trade bug.
