Wolven Hour is a potion in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt added by Patch 1.08 that temporarily lowers all level requirements for equipping items by 2.

It was added as a follow-up to changes made in Patch 1.07 which scaled up the level requirements for certain items and thus rendered them unusable for many players. The potion was automatically added to the player inventory upon installation of patch 1.08, and is also automatically added to all new games started on 1.08 and any subsequent game versions.

Uniquely among potions in the game, Wolven Hour cannot be replenished and may only be consumed once, as it was originally intended to be used in conjunction with locked-out items until the player had sufficiently levelled up to use them without the potion.

Tips[]

  • A good time to use this potion is when doing The Isle of Mists quest, as services of blacksmiths and armorers will be unavailable for a while, which means upgrading witcher gear will also be impossible. Thus it is a good idea to upgrade your gear prior and then drink this potion in order to wield it 2 levels early.
  • Another good time is after completion of Hearts of Stone expansion if Geralt is not yet at the required level to wield Viper Venomous gear.

Notes[]

  • This potion cannot be replenished except through another playthrough.
  • While the potion does exactly what it's supposed to, it does not take into account clips where Geralt pulls out one of his swords. In this case he will be forced to use a lower level sword, even if there is no alternative available, which means the game will simply materialize one. This will likely unequip the sword permanently as even if Wolven Hour was still in effect it's very likely the clip will also remove its effect.
