Wyvern mutagen is an alchemy ingredient in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and is used to craft wyvern decoction. They act like lesser red mutagens when placed in the diamond-shaped slots in the character panel.
Like all special mutagens they can only be dropped by their corresponding monster, and like most has a guaranteed source: the royal wyvern during Contract: Phantom of the Trade Route, although that is a relatively high level quest. All other wyverns may also drop the mutagen, but their chances are rather low.

- In an undocumented change for Patch 1.08, all mutagen icons were changed. However, there was still a bug for those on Steam and Origin that didn't reflect this and was later fixed in Patch 1.22. Despite this, some may still see the original icons instead, even with a fully patched game.
- The lowest level quest where a wyvern is encountered is Contract: Patrol Gone Missing. However, that is also the only contract quest where the "boss" monster can, but isn't scripted to always drop a mutagen.
- Another easy alternative is The Most Truest of Basilisks, as not only is the wyvern injured from the start but you will also have Redanian soldiers for support. Just be sure to save before talking to the Beast Tamer in case the mutagen won't drop.
