X Marks the Spot is a treasure hunt quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Walkthrough[]
This quest starts at an unmarked, abandoned hut southeast of Blandare. The best way to find it is to head east from the hidden treasure marker in this area (north of the small lake) and go slightly south to see the hut. A white bear will be between it and the lake so be careful if you don't want to fight it.
Enter the hut and examine the skeleton here and loot the key and map to start the quest. Shortly after a wraith will spawn but depending if you left the building quickly, you may not have to fight it.
The chest location is just southeast of Fayrlund, where the hidden treasure marker is, and the chest is right at the base of the waterfall. A Wolf School symbol is carved to the rockside near it, making it highly visible when using the Witcher Senses. Note that you have to interact with this chest twice: once to unlock and a second time to actually loot it.
Journal entry[]
- Geralt found a key and a map with a location on Ard Skellig marked on it. Though he usually smirked at wild-eyed treasure hunters, he couldn't resist seeing if some treasure lay hidden there.
- To his surprise, Geralt discovered the treasure map was neither a joke nor a trap. It truly did lead him to a chest full of valuables.
Objectives[]
- Unfold the map.
- Follow the map to find the treasure.
Notes[]
- For an unknown reason, the treasure's location is denoted in the game world by a Wolf School symbol. This could be a hint for a piece of Wolf School gear found during Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 6, however, this piece of equipment is located some distance west from the treasure chest in Kaer Nyssen. Furthermore, the symbol is uninteractable and disappears after the chest has been looted.
- The loot is always only 2 items - a random armor piece or sword of at least master quality and a random (but most often lesser) glyph or runestone.
